Football season has begun, folks!
If you live in the Catalyst Apartments and are getting tired of watching the games from a loud and noisy sports bar, feel free to invite some friends over for game-watching time in the luxurious clubroom. With a huge flat screen TV, ample seating, a kitchen and a bar area, your friends will feel like they are sitting VIP in a lounge while they watch the teams battle their way to the playoffs.
Hosting a football get-together is only a job well done if proper food is served. The good thing is, you do not have to be a gourmet chef in order to whip up a few dishes that your friends will enjoy between touchdown cheers and bad call complaints. Here are a few ideas for homemade snacks to serve in the clubroom. These will undoubtedly put you ahead of the guy who pours a bag of pretzels into a large bowl, rips off the cover of premade dip and says “dig in.”
Buffalo chicken wings are usually the way to any football fan’s heart. In order to make a ton of these, all you need to do is fill a large pot with a pound of wings and add dashes of cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes. Fill the pot with water so that it is halfway full then bring the delicious ingredients to a boil. Let the mixture boil for about 15 minutes then transfer them to the oven and broil them for as long as you want – the longer they broil, the crispier they will taste!
While you wait for the chicken to broil, melt a tablespoon of margarine with a half of a cup of hot sauce. When you are ready to remove your crispy chicken wings, simply cover them with the hot sauce mixture.
If that doesn’t make the your friends’ mouths water, don’t worry, you can still serve a delicious batch of homemade guacamole that will be devoured before the end of the first quarter. Sure you can buy guac from the store, but homemade dip always tastes so much better. You will need to spend some time cutting up vegetables such as a red onion, Serrano chilies, a few pinches of cilantro and half of a tomato. Mix these chopped vegetables with two ripe avocadoes then add a few squirts of lime juice and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix and stir the ingredients until it reaches a smooth texture. If there are still chucks, do not worry, that will only make the guac better for dipping!
With an eight-ounce package of cream cheese, a pack of ranch dressing mix, two and a half cups of cheddar cheese and a cup and a half of chopped pecans, you can make a quick batch of cheese balls. All you need to do is mash the ingredients together and build some balls out of it and stick them in the refrigerator until they harden.
The management at Catalyst Apartments wants its residents to enjoy the clubroom and encourages its use for entertaining guests. Have fun this football season watching the game from the spacious room. However, do remember to clean up for your neighbors after the game is over. No one wants to see an empty plate of cheese balls and feel left out of the party!
