Life in Uptown Charlotte is never boring, and this spring you will find many opportunities to have some fun while you give back to the local community. Consider one of these upcoming events if you are looking for something fun, and beneficial, to do in the next few weeks.

Moonlight Masquerade: Thomas Davis & Friends Charity Casino Night

On Friday, May 16 at 8:00 p.m. head to the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts and Culture for the Moonlight Masquerade. Here you will have the chance to mingle with NFL players, play casino games and enjoy light appetizers and a cash bar as you mingle with local friends. Admission to the event is $50 and covers your appetizers and $2,000 in playing money. Come in cocktail attire with a masquerade mask.

Proceeds from the event go to support the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation. The Foundation provides free programming to needy local families in the greater Charlotte area.

Samaritan House Wine and Cheese Tasting and Silent Auction

On May 20 at 6:00 p.m., head to the Blue Restaurant & Bar to show your support for the Samaritan House at the fourth annual Wine & Cheese Tasting and Silent Auction. Tickets to the event are just $30 and cover the food and beverages you will enjoy. Items available to bid on include everything from travel vouchers for getaways to Carolina Panthers memorabilia. All proceeds go to support the work of the Samaritan House, a home for homeless people living in Mecklenburg County.

Tread the Thread 5k and 10k

The Tread the Thread 5k and 10k race is scheduled for May 3 at 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The races take place at the Buffalo Creek Preserve and Trail, which is just 20 minutes away from Uptown. You will have the chance to run through a restored oak savannah, then some active farmland and finally the forest bluffs on Adams Creek. When you are done racing, you will be treated to a local craft beer and lunch made from locally grown ingredients.

If you register before May 1, the cost is just $25. After May 1 it increases to $30. All proceeds from Tread the Thread go to support the 15 county trail network, the Carolina Tread Trail. If you love to run and love the many preserved areas around Charlotte, this is the event for you!

This spring, the opportunities to get involved in the local Uptown Charlotte community are nearly endless. Which event are you planning to join?
