With Memorial Day come and gone, it’s safe to say we have officially welcomed summer to the Charlotte area. Charlotte truly comes alive in the summer months, and many of the residents of Catalyst Apartments take these months to head outdoors. When the sun starts to set in the evening in Charlotte, many local parks or businesses offer free or low-cost summer outdoor movies. Here are some upcoming events to check out if you would like to catch a flick under the stars.

While not technically a park, the Rivergate Shopping Center offers movies by its fountain, located at 12807 South Tryon Street. Starting with Frozen on June 7, the outdoor movies cater to the family crowd. Other dates and shows include Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on August 2, Despicable Me 2 on August 30 and Monsters Universityon October 25. Movies start at dusk and you will need your own chair or blankets.
Movies in the Park in Huntersville

This family-friendly park movie night includes free popcorn, drinks, sunscreen and bug spray for all involved. Movies start at dusk, but the festivities begin at 6 p.m. when the park opens. They have two dates scheduled, Despicable Me 2 on June 6 and Cloudy with a Chance or Meatballs 2 on September 5.
Movies on the Green
The Promenade on Providence is hosting two Movies on the Green. On June 13 you can catch Frozen and on June 27 you can catch Despicable Me. You will need your own chair or blanket, but the movie is free. Seating opens at 7 p.m. The movies are held at the corner of Providence Road and Interstate 485.
Movies on the Lawn
On the second Saturday from May through September, you can enjoy a free movie with popcorn and a drink on the front lawn of the Kilgo United Methodist Church. The church is located at 2101 Belvedere Avenue in Charlotte. A list of titles is not available, but the movies begin at dusk and are family-friendly.
Whether you have kids or not, these outdoor movies are a fun way to get outside and enjoy the Charlotte community in the summer. Make plans now to attend one of your favorite titles, and plan to arrive early to ensure you can get a spot.
